The Old Stable
There has been a house on the site since the 18th Century. Today, The Old Stable offers modern, comfortable accommodation for up to 5 people (plus cot) in an idyllic spot in the village of Southerndown in the Vale of Glamorgan. Just 550 metres from the beach,
The Old Stable is ideally located to explore the Glamorgan Heritage coastline with its numerous sandy beaches and lovely walks. It is a popular spot for surfing, horse riding and golf. Cardiff with its various attractions, shopping, museums and theatres is an easy 25 minutes drive via the M4. There is a leisure centre in Swansea - half an hour away - where you can even surf; good practice for surfing on our local beaches! Southerndown has its own pub and an excellent restaurant. If you happen to be lucky you may see them filming Dr. Who or Merlin! We've even seen Rhys Ifans down here for a film about Howard Marks.
Directions
Satnav and mobile phones are somewhat unreliable along this coast! From M4 Junction 35, take the A483 direction Bridgend. You will join the A48, direction Port Talbot, Swansea. You will cross a roundabout with MacDonalds on the right and KFC (and a carwash) on the left. At the next roundabout (with traffic lights) take the first left to Ewenny/St Brides Major. In St. Brides Major turn right at the war memorial along Southerndown Road. A couple of miles along the country road and just inside the 30 mph limit but just in front of the Southerndown sign, fork right - you have arrived - it is the yellow house!
Parking
There is off-road parking for three cars.
Public transport info
We are ten miles from Cardiff International Airport, five miles from Bridgend which has a mainline station and bus station (buses to Heathrow, etc. as well as local destinations.) The bus into Bridgend leaves once an hour as well as a bus to Llantwit Major.
